Co-Curriculum

Mission of Co-Curriculum

A smiling pharmacy student wears his white coat for the first time.To provide category-mediated, student-specific co-curriculum with purposeful evaluations, content-based closing the loop, and clear communication.

Co-Curriculum Categories and Outcomes

The NEOMED College of Pharmacy Co-Curriculum is intentionally built within the framework of the Professional Development Advising Team (PDAT) and Personal and Professional Development for Pharmacy (PPDP) Course Series, throughout the P1-P4 years.   The program is linked to the Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Education 2013 Outcomes, also commonly referred to as “CAPE Outcomes.”

There are five categories of co-curriculum activities that students can use to satisfy co-curriculum requirements:

  1. Collaboration and Teams (CAPE Outcomes 3.1, 3.2, 3.6, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4)
  2. Cultural Awareness (CAPE Outcomes 3.5, 3.6, 4.1, 4.4)
  3. Personal and Professional Development (CAPE Outcomes 3.6, 4.1, 4.4)
  4. Population Health/Community Service (CAPE Outcomes 3.1, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 4.1, 4.4)
  5. Patient Care (CAPE Outcomes 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 4.1, 4.3, 4.4)

PDAT advisors provide students with guidance in their selection of co-curriculum activities.  The PPDP course series, PDAT advising, and co-curriculum activities are tightly linked to help students develop a customized experience for personal and professional growth.

Students are required to complete a minimum of three co-curriculum activities each academic year.

To achieve “recognition” in a co-curriculum category, a student must complete five activities in that category. The student will be awarded a badge within CampusGroups, and students can list this recognition on their CV in the “Honors & Awards” section.

  1. Set your SMART goals for the academic year with your PDAT advisor and submit the goals in the COP PDAT & Co-Curriculum Course in the CANVAS platform.
  2. Submit your Co-Curricular Plan for the academic year in the COP PDAT & Co-Curriculum Course in CANVAS.
  3. Use CampusGroups to find and register for co-curriculum activities.
    1. In CampusGroups, click on the “Events” icon at the top of the page
    2. Filter for co-curriculum activities by clicking the “Event Type” dropdown and selecting “Co-Curricular Opportunity”
    3. Co-curriculum activities can also be found by clicking on the “Event Tag” dropdown and selecting one or more of the following options:
      1. COP: Collaboration & Teams
      2. COP: Cultural Awareness
      3. COP: Patient Care
      4. COP: Personal/Professional Development
      5. COP: Population Health/Community Service
  4. There is also a list of approved co-curriculum activities in the Co-Curricular Catalogue within the CANVAS PDAT/Co-curriculum webpage. This list is updated quarterly, therefore, CampusGroups is the most up-to-date listing of co-curriculum activities. You must register for co-curriculum activities in CampusGroups, if you plan on seeking co-curricular recognition.
  5. If you have an activity that is not listed as co-curricular in CampusGroups, you can submit a request to have that activity evaluated for consideration by submitting the event in CampusGroups and selecting ‘Co-Curricular Opportunity’ and the appropriate Event Tag.
  6. After completing the co-curriculum activity, write your reflection and submit it in COP PDAT & Co-Curriculum Course in CANVAS.
